Peruvian vineyard Tacama's Demonio de los Andes (Devil of the Andes) pisco varieties won four medals at London-based premier competition International Spirits Challenge (ISC).
Demonio de los Andes Acholado, previously awarded in France, won silver, followed by Gran Demonio Mosto Verde Moscatel and Gran Demonio Mosto Verde Acholado with bronze medals.
"These new achievements mean a lot to us, since Great Britain is well-known for its excellent spirits," Viña Tacama Chairman Jose Antonio Olaechea affirmed.
Located in coastal Ica region, the Tacama winery dates back to the decade of the 1540’s, which makes it the oldest vineyard in Peru and South America.
As is known, Peru's flagship product pisco has reached new
markets like Australia, Belgium, the Dominican Republic, India, Israel, Norway and the United Arab Emirates, among others.
The Production Ministry estimates Peru's pisco output will show a
positive trend this year, totaling 10.9 million liters, thus meaning a 4% increase compared to 2016.
Self-proclaimed as the most authoritative, respected and influential spirits competition in the world, the International Spirits Challenge has been promoting outstanding quality spirits for 22 years.
The competition receives over 1,300 entries from nearly 70 countries, and is supported by leading spirits producers.
ISC's judging process involves a 7-day highly-controlled blind tasting operation by over 50 of the industry's finest palates, who assess products based on their aroma, appearance, taste and finish.
ISC Tasting Awards are thus an impressive achievement, which give winners an internationally-recognized seal of good quality.
