In this regard, the government official ruled out that the country's accession to this mechanism is related to any specific commitment by Peru to the United States, or vice versa.
"There is a political will clearly expressed by the United States and by Mr. Marco Rubio here in Peru to work multilaterally, share information, share logistical and operational capabilities, as well as work on cybersecurity and combat money laundering, but also among the other countries," Espa told Canal N.
The minister indicated that, within the framework of the "Shield of the Americas," agreements or arrangements will gradually be reached that, as required, will be subject to political oversight by the Congress of the Republic.
He added that the other countries comprising the partnership will do likewise, in accordance with their sovereignty.
The Cabinet member ruled out any trade-related commitment for Peru's accession.
He also mentioned that this is a security mechanism aimed at combating transnational criminal organizations and other related crimes such as money laundering.
"We act in accordance with Peru's interests and national sovereignty. We want to level the playing field; we want transparent investments. For example, we want to ensure that illegal mining does not penetrate different levels of government through corruption," Espa pointed out.
Furthermore, the minister ruled out that the severance of diplomatic relations with Iran was due to any pressure from the United States.
He underscored that it is an exercise of a sovereign right in response to the absence of democracy and various freedoms under that regime.
