Peru has won four important accolades at this year's World Travel Awards for South America —one of the travel industry's most prestigious events— including Machu Picchu's award for South America's Leading Tourist Attraction 2018.

According to the Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru), the Inca country has received the following honors: South America's Leading Culinary Destination 2018, South America's Leading Cultural Destination 2018, and South America's Leading Tourist Attraction 2018.

Likewise, PromPeru has been named South America's Leading Tourist Board 2018, for the third consecutive year.

Leading figures of the travel industry and international media attended the ceremony staged at Guayaquil's Palacio de Cristal.

"We are happy for these victories as they show the articulated efforts between public and private sectors. Plus, they build up the image of the country in the eyes of the world, thus cementing its position as a destination full of history, culture, nature, and a delicious gastronomy renowned all over the globe," PromPeru's Tourism Department Director Marisol Acosta pointed out.

The regional winners will progress to the Grand Final 2018, which is being hosted in Lisbon (Portugal) and is scheduled for December 1.

The Andean nation is among the nominees of the 25th annual World Travel Awards (world edition). Peru's nominations include, among others, World's Leading Green Destination 2018 and World's Leading City Break Destination 2018.
