Justice and Human Rights Minister Jose Tello on Sunday affirmed that the emergency that the country is currently experiencing due to the heavy rains will provide lessons in the face of the possible presence of an El Niño Phenomenon.

According to the government official, the Executive Branch is coordinating at all levels of government in order to deal with this situation through rapid response and preventive actions.

In this regard, Tello stated that prevention has not been taken into account for years, adding that there are many regional and local authorities that have just taken office for the first time.

"We are experiencing a series of situations, and we have realized that they will provide lessons at the national level, because we will also have to face the El Niño Phenomenon soon," he told RPP Noticias.

The head of the Justice sector remarked that actions are being implemented at the national level in coordination with the authorities involved and through the Con Punche Solidario Plan. Support is also received from the private sector.

On the other hand, the Cabinet member affirmed that a strenuous territorial reorganization is under way, since most problems arise because many people live in risk areas such as ravines, which always end up becoming active by weather events despite remaining inactive for long periods.

"Civil defense is everyone's responsibility. We have to join forces to get out of this crisis," he remarked.

The minister reported that 19 tons of aid have been delivered to Huarochiri, adding that a meeting will be held with the mayor of said province in order to support those who have been isolated due to rains and landslides.
