Peruvian judoka Lesly Cano won a gold medal at the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore on Wednesday, adding up to the national volleyball team's victory over Japan which gave Peru the bronze medal.
Cano’s opponents were Cuban Alex Garcia, Kazakhstanian Kairat Agivayev, Japanese Miku Tashiro, Congolese Daryl Lokuku Ngambomo and Spanish Pedro Rivadulla.
President of the Olympic Committee Jose Quiñones congratulated the sportswoman for her wonderful performance in Singapore 2010.
“Fortunately, it’s been a great day for Peruvian sports. Today, our national volleyball team beat Japan and obtained the bronze medal, and a few hours later, Lesly Cano won the gold one,” said Quiñones.
Peru’s delegation will return to Lima on Saturday at 16:00 hours (21:00 GMT).
