Interior Minister Cesar Gentille monitored the implementation of different supervisory and control actions conducted by the Peruvian National Police (PNP) on the third Sunday under mandatory social immobilization.

The government official reiterated that parties and family gatherings remain prohibited in order to safeguard the national security and keep up the efforts to control the spread of COVID-19.

"Parties and family gatherings remain prohibited because they imply crowding and potential hot spots for infections. Permanent supervision will be maintained to avoid them (the gatherings) from occurring and to put them as a negative example of what not to do," he stated.

"We must defend and maintain the progress made in the fight against COVID-19 so as to overcome this pandemic as soon as possible," he added.

The Interior sector's head affirmed that supervision on these activities is not only carried out in peripheral areas, but in the entire capital city and across the country.

"These interventions are not conducted on a targeted basis, that is, only in peripheral areas and putting urban center aside. We have to perform a transversal supervision," he affirmed.

Gentille explained that citizens are allowed to practice individual sports at the beach. However, social and family gatherings in these places remain prohibited.

"We have to behave responsibly. We have made progress in the fight against coronavirus. We cannot let our guard down. Therefore, we must maintain preventive actions, such as the use of face masks, hand hygiene, and social distancing," he added.
