on Tuesday confirmed that National Police of Peru (PNP) Colonel Harvey Colchado will remain in the Special Team of the PNP, which will support the actions of the Prosecutor's Office in search for fugitives from justice.
The Cabinet member indicated that, within the framework of this meeting, they had agreed that an inter-institutional coordination protocol will be carried out with the Prosecutor's Office, so that their actions are in accordance with the law.
The government official pointed out that, within his powers as the
Interior sector's head, he could have modified the composition of the team. Yet, Huerta said, he had not done so —out of respect for the Public Ministry.
"There will be no changes, the (PNP Special) Team will continue working," he told reporters.
During the event,
Benavides remarked that the direction of the investigation corresponds to the Prosecutor's Office.
In Peru, the Public Ministry is independent from the Executive Branch.
