Interior Minister Willy Huerta on Tuesday confirmed that National Police of Peru (PNP) Colonel Harvey Colchado will remain in the Special Team of the PNP, which will support the actions of the Prosecutor's Office in search for fugitives from justice.

Remarks were made after a meeting held with Attorney General Patricia Benavides, with whom he had discussed the work to be carried out by this PNP group that will work together with the Special Team of Prosecutors against Corruption of Power.

The Cabinet member indicated that, within the framework of this meeting, they had agreed that an inter-institutional coordination protocol will be carried out with the Prosecutor's Office, so that their actions are in accordance with the law.

The government official pointed out that, within his powers as the Interior sector's head, he could have modified the composition of the team. Yet, Huerta said, he had not done so —out of respect for the Public Ministry.

"There will be no changes, the (PNP Special) Team will continue working," he told reporters.

Minister Huerta met with Attorney General Patricia Benavides to coordinate actions in the investigations carried out by the Public Ministry.

During the event, Benavides remarked that the direction of the investigation corresponds to the Prosecutor's Office.

Besides, there is already a Special Team of the PNP, supported by a current ministerial resolution which supports the investigation by the Special Team of Prosecutors against Corruption.

In Peru, the Public Ministry is independent from the Executive Branch.
