The movement of people in the public transportation system decreased 54% on Sunday, January 31, compared to the same day a week earlier (February 24), and contracted 39% on Monday, February 1, from the same day a week before, Health Minister Pilar Mazzetti reported on Wednesday.

During the presentation of a preliminary evaluation of the measures approved by the Government in order to mitigate the second wave of COVID-19, the minister affirmed that a 57% drop in the movement of people can reduce the rate of contagion (R Factor) to 1, which will help push back the pandemic.

The Cabinet member remarked that these estimates are based on studies conducted by serious organizations, such as the Imperial College, a prestigious science-based university in the UK.

Containing the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic is a joint effort, a collaborative effort between citizens and the State, said the head of the Ministry of Health (Minsa).

Remarks were made during a press conference held along with Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez.
