Peru's Health Min: Primary care level to be strengthened to contain COVID-19

14:56 | Lima, Jul. 29.

The Ministry of Health (Minsa) is strengthening the primary care level in Lima and regions throughout the country, taking rapid tests and providing medications to places that are far away from big cities in order to contain the spread of COVID-19, the sector's head Pilar Mazzetti said on Wednesday.

"We have to check the oximeter to make sure the readings do not drop below 93%, this lets us know when a person is struggling to breathe," she said in remarks to Latina TV channel.

According to the minister, this will help lessen the difficulty that many people with health problems —who live on the outskirts of big cities— face when looking for a place where medical care is available.

The Cabinet member called on doctors, nurses, and nursing assistants —who like hard work and are able to work at primary care level facilities— to provide support in said remote places.

"We have available positions in places where your support is highly needed," she stressed.
