Peru's Guerrero leads Flamengo to Carioca tournament's glory

Led by Peruvian striker Paolo Guerrero, Brazil's Flamengo soccer club on Sunday clinched its 34th Campeonato Carioca title after defeating archrival Fluminense (2-1) at Maracana Stadium.

Final match

Few minutes after the game had started, Henrique Dourado made the only goal for Fluminense (3rd minute).

Thus, the first half came to an end with the momentary triumph of Fluminense.

However, "Mengao" resurrected in the second half driven by Peru's top forward Guerrero.

The "Predator" scored the first goal for Flamengo (84th minute).

While the game was coming to an end, Rodinei got the ball, which he slid into the net (96th minute). 

In the end, Flamengo beat Fluminense 3-1 on aggregate after winning the first leg 1-0.

This is the first Brazilian title for Peruvian striker Paolo Guerrero and midfielder Miguel Trauco. 

Paolo Guerrero

33-year-old Guerrero has made a total of 34 goals defending the Rio de Janeiro-based team since 2015.

The striker signed a three-year contract with the Brazilian club on May 29, 2015.

The Predator also played for Brazil's Corinthians from 2012 to 2015, winning the FIFA Club World Cup against Chelsea during his first year.

Previously, he defended German teams Bayern Munich and Hamburg SV.  

Miguel Trauco

Trauco has defended Peru's national squad 14 times.

The 24-year-old signed a contract with Flamengo running from 2017 to 2019.

The national athlete has so far scored 3 goals, while wearing the "Mengao" jersey.
