The Peruvian Government on Monday reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Japan —after a meeting held with Ambassador Maki Kobayashi, Director General for Latin American and Caribbean Affairs Bureau of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Via its official Twitter account, the Peruvian Foreign Affairs Ministry indicated that Director General for Asian and Oceanian Affairs Fernando Quiros held a meeting with Director General Kobayashi in Lima to strengthen ties between the two countries.

Both authorities highlighted the level of strategic partners of Peru and Japan, as well as the importance of shared multilateral spaces such as the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), among others.

The Peruvian Government agency pointed out that bilateral and multilateral issues of mutual interest were also addressed for the benefit of both nations.

The two officials expressed the desire to continue strengthening ties of friendship and cooperation with a view to the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2023 and the next Political Dialogue Mechanism meeting.
