10:23 | Lima, Oct. 19.

Peru's Foreign Affairs Minister Oscar Maurtua met with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Peru, Sorayut Chasombat, to discuss the main topics of the bilateral relationship.

During the meeting, held on Monday, both authorities highlighted the excellent level of strategic partnership between the two countries, which is based on political dialogue, trade, investment, cultural exchange, and scientific cooperation.

Furthermore, they underlined the importance of boosting the relationship between Peru and member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). It is worth noting that the Thai envoy to Peru presides over the ASEAN Committee in Lima.

In addition, it should be pointed out that a framework agreement to start negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) was signed in 2003, turning Peru into the first country in the region to negotiate an agreement of this kind with the Kingdom of Thailand.

Maurtua meets with Thai counterpart

Last month, the Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister, Oscar Maurtua, held a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister of the Kingdom Thailand Don Pramudwinai.

The gathering was aimed to strengthen the strategic partnership uniting both nations, as well as to explore new trade and investment opportunities.

Peru-Thailand bilateral relations are characterized by a diversified trade and cooperation agenda, supported by the complementarity of their economies and similarities in levels of development.

The meeting took place within the framework of the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 76) in New York City.
