Peru's FA Min welcomes deepening cooperation between China and LatAm

It contributes to economic recovery in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as to technological advancement and sustainable development.

"It is valuable that we have proposed, based on our own needs and interests, drawing up a master plan for cooperation among China, Latin America, and the Caribbean since it constitutes a pertinent and inspiring approach at a time when it has become clear that major challenges require the concerted and supportive action by all actors of the international system," Ambassador Maurtua said during his virtual participation in the event.

 

In this sense, the Cabinet member highlighted the importance of the Action Plan for the 2022-2024 Triennium and the Ministerial Declaration adopted at the meeting. These promote the execution of coordinated actions between the Asian Giant and the Latin American region with the aim of boosting trade by facilitating access to markets offering added-value products, invigorating tourism, encouraging educational and cultural exchanges, as well as strengthening the development of science, technology, and innovation.

 

In the Peruvian case, the high-ranking official emphasized the historical ties uniting Peru and China, as well as our trade, friendship, and cooperation ties.

Likewise, the diplomat reiterated the interest of Peru in maintaining this link, in line with the Government's policy of maintaining a macroeconomic stability framework, as well as respecting the rule of law and the guidelines for investment and trade.

Furthermore, Maurtua welcomed and encouraged the fluid cooperation in health matters in the midst of the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the inclusion of traditional medicine contributions.

Moreover, he highlighted the collaboration in space technology following the creation of the Latin American and Caribbean Space Agency (ALCE) within the framework of the CELAC.

The Third Ministers' Meeting of the China-CELAC Forum was co-chaired by Foreign Affairs Minister of the People's Republic of China Wang Yi and Mexican Foreign Affairs Secretary Marcelo Ebrard, whose country holds the Pro-Tempore Presidency of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).
