Peru will present a draft resolution at the next session of the Organization of American States (OAS) General Assembly, in June, declaring Tren de Aragua a terrorist organization at the regional level,
"We are going to present at the next General Assembly of the OAS, this coming June, a document, a draft resolution so that Tren de Aragua is declared at the regional, inter-American level, as a terrorist organization, because what it generates in the country, among the population, among mothers and honest citizens, is terror," Schialer stated.
"This is no way to build a country, and we must say it clearly and loudly, every government in the region," he added.
At the regional level, he said that the issue of security is also being worked on through the General Secretariat of the Andean Community, to which Peru submitted a proposal called the "Resolute Action Plan against Urban Violence."
Deportations
In remarks to Radio Nacional, the minister said that the pace of deportations of Peruvian citizens from the United States has slowed down, compared to previous U.S. administrations and other countries.
"Since August 2023, under the previous administration, we had received about 12,000 deported Peruvians over 30 months; since President (Donald) Trump took office, that figure has dropped. Within two months, we have received about 400 Peruvians here," Schialer stated.
He said that Sanchez addressed the OAS Permanent Council's plenary to explain how she would work supporting the Secretary General in achieving progress in the organization's four fundamental pillars.
Minister Schialer stated that, if she receives the endorsement of member countries, Ambassador Sanchez would become the first woman to hold the position of Assistant Secretary General and the first Peruvian to do so.
