As part of the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4),
Peru's Foreign Affairs Minister Elmer Schialer held meetings in Seville, Spain, with several authorities, including his
Andorran counterpart, Imma Tor Faus, and
World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
During the talks with his Andorran counterpart, both officials highlighted the positive state of bilateral relations.
They agreed to promote cooperation in areas such as the preservation of mountain ecosystems, assistance in mountain search and rescue operations, as well as judicial, economic, and labor cooperation aimed at fostering orderly, safe, and regular migration.
"The minister (Sitharaman) highlighted Peru's potential in strategic sectors such as critical minerals and infrastructure development, as well as the progress toward a Free Trade Agreement that would strengthen market access and promote sustainable investment," the
Foreign Affairs Ministry reported on social media.
The Peruvian diplomat reaffirmed the South American country's commitment to strengthening ties with Central America and the Caribbean, fostering integration, cooperation, and sustainable development in the region.
"They agreed to exchange information to promote Peru's commercial presence in the Caribbean, as well as on the country's port and logistics capabilities," the
Foreign Affairs Ministry noted.
"The WTO Director-General praised Peru for the prudent and effective conduct of its foreign policy amid the current complex international context," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.
Attends opening ceremony
At the event, he reaffirmed Peru's commitment to strengthening international cooperation for sustainable and inclusive development.
Ambassador Schialer spoke of the urgent need to reform international development financing criteria to also take into account the needs of middle-income countries like Peru, in order to avoid the "middle-income trap."
