Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Oscar Maurtua has affirmed that the strengthening of multilateralism must place people at the center of action.

Last Friday, the Cabinet member virtually attended the plenary session of the 51st General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) presided over by Guatemala.

Within this framework, the ambassador said that 2021 marked the 20th anniversary of the approval of the Inter-American Democratic Charter, which guides the defense of democracy across the continent.

Likewise, the diplomat advocated for continuing to implement the Lima Commitment: Democratic Governance against Corruption.

Furthermore, Minister Maurtua called for strengthening educational systems as decisive elements for democracy.

He also highlighted the importance of the Inter-American Human Rights System and the values it represents, to which Peru adheres.
