Peru's Energy Mines Min: Refinery will contribute to closing potable water gaps in Talara

13:44 | Talara (Piura region), Feb. 3.

The New Talara Refinery will help close the potable water gap in Peru's northern Talara province (Piura region), where this infrastructure is located, Energy and Mines Minister Oscar Vera Gargurevich has highlighted.

Remarks were made following the signing of the agreement between Petroperu and the Provincial Municipality, which will enable the company to deliver 2,000 cubic meters of potable water daily to the EPS Grau so as to contribute to the distribution of this basic service to the population, seeking to improve their quality of life and assist in the development of human capital.

The Cabinet member underscored the benefits generated by the construction of the New Talara Refinery, allowing the creation of 10,000 direct jobs, 20,000 indirect jobs, and more than S/7 billion (over US$1.821 billion) in tax revenue for the country.

The high-ranking official affirmed that the new refinery constitutes a milestone for the hydrocarbons industry in Peru, since it generates opportunities for development and economic reactivation for regions in the northern coast and the Amazonia through the generation of employment and the enhancement of oil wealth.

From Talara, Minister Vera Gargurevich and other Cabinet members joined President Dina Boluarte in the start of the production of low-sulfur diesel and gasoline, confirming that this modern refinery already produces clean fuels —with the highest quality standards.

The minister stressed that this mega-project will generate strategic value and promote the hydrocarbon industry in the northern jungle and Talara. It will also allow the processing of heavy crude oil extracted from the Amazon lots, which will stimulate the arrival of more oil investments, strengthening the hydrocarbons industry.

Moreover, he mentioned that this infrastructure will allow the generation of higher taxes, royalties and canons for producing regions, contributing to recover the Oleoducto Nor Peruano (Northern Peruvian Oil Pipeline) and making it easier for producing companies to process crude oil at the new refinery, without the need to resort to importation, thus generating higher revenues for the country.
