National Elections Board (JNE) Chairman Jorge Luis Salas has ensured that the presidential runoff election, scheduled for June 6, will be a fully transparent process.
"The
National Elections Board, in its capacity as the country's highest autonomous electoral body, ensures that this is and will be a free, democratic, and transparent process," he stated.
"In this sense, we express our rejection of disqualification of the institution's work and personal actions as an attempt to question the legitimacy of the process," Salas added.
The JNE's head noted that Peruvians will witness a clean electoral process, and to that end, representatives of international organizations are observing the process for the runoff election.
"The National Elections Board reaffirms its patriotic commitment to strengthen democracy and governance in the country," he said in remarks before the first debate between the technical teams of Fuerza Popular and Peru Libre —the parties of the two presidential candidates.
According to Salas, thanks to the debates organized by the JNE, the population will be familiar with the proposals of both political groups, so they will be informed before casting their vote on June 6.
Precisely, the technical teams of Fuerza Popular and Peru Libre presented their principal proposals during the first debate organized by the National Elections Board (JNE) ahead of the presidential race.
Additionally, he highlighted the participation of citizens in April 11 general elections, as well as of polling station members, volunteers, political party representatives, and officials, who keep working tirelessly to hold responsible elections.
Moreover, he thanked the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) for its efficient work, and the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec), which fully fulfilled its functions in the electoral process.
