The Peruvian economy continued with its reactivation process and merely declined by 6.95% in September this year, the less severe contraction in the last seven months, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) reported on Monday.

The INEI pointed out that national production decreased (-14.49%) in the January-September period, and it did so by -10.26% in the annualized period (October 2019-September 2020).

The result registered in September 2020 (-6.95%) was determined by the lower production from the sectors: mining and hydrocarbons; accommodation and restaurants; transportation, storage and messaging; services provided to companies; manufacture; commerce; agriculture; as well as electricity, gas and water.

Agriculture

The agricultural sector registered a reduction of 2.57% due to the negative result of the agricultural subsector (-2.3%).

Fishery

On the other hand, the fishery sector grew 7.29% due to the greater capture of species of maritime origin (7.12%).

Construction

Last September, the construction sector grew by 4.38% driven by the higher internal consumption of cement (9.73%). The sector's recovery is explained by the resumption of mainly private construction projects, followed by public works.
