Peru's Development Minister meets with UNDP officials

Peruvian Development and Social Inclusion Minister Julio Demartini held a meeting with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Administrator Achim Steiner and UNDP Assistant Administrator-Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean Michelle Muschett to strengthen cooperation of the UNDP for the benefit of comprehensive social protection in Peru.

At the gathering held in New York, the Peruvian Cabinet member argued that the contribution, consisting of international experience and technical assistance from the UNDP in the implementation of the new National Development and Social Inclusion Policy by 2030, will be relevant for overcoming extreme poverty.

In turn, the UNDP Administrator expressed his support and satisfaction for joining, through the UNDP, the execution of Peru's social policy in order to continue investing in human capital and create development opportunities to fight poverty.

For her part, the UN Assistant Secretary-General & UNDP Regional Director for Latin America and the Caribbean reaffirmed that Peru "has the support of UNDP, and we will offer our experience of similar efforts in other countries, because we are committed to development."

Earlier this week, Development and Social Inclusion Minister Demartini announced at the United Nations headquarters that his sector plans to generate 55,000 temporary jobs in Peru so as to contribute to the economic and social inclusion of vulnerable people.
