Defense Minister Jorge Chavez Cresta on Monday reiterated his call for peace and for establishing dialogue mechanisms with demonstrators in different regions across the country.
"As I have always said, I will never get tired of calling for peace (...), joint efforts are being made with the population and authorities in order to establish dialogue mechanisms," Chavez Cresta stated.
The minister warned that some sectors refuse to engage in dialogue, noting that the Government will reiterate its call for sitting down and talking.
Moreover, it has been reported that citizens from across the country are coming to the capital city. Accordingly, the
Ministry of Interior (Mininter) and the Intelligence Directorate are gathering the necessary information to avoid a situation of violence.
The minister made the remarks this morning after participating in the ceremony marking the 142nd anniversary of the Battle of Miraflores.
The ceremony began with a moment of silence and the placement of a wreath in honor of the courageous Peruvians who gave their lives to defend our homeland.
The Battle of Miraflores took place on January 15, 1881 in Lima's Miraflores district during the War of the Pacific and was fought between the Chilean Army and the Peruvian defense.
