Peru's consumer price index rose 2.48% in 2018, National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) has reported.
The rise was a result of increased prices for major consumer groups such as food and beverage (2.41%), teaching and culture (3.60%), as well as transport and communications (2.73%).
Other groups include goods and services (2.20%), furniture and fittings (2.02%), health care and health preservation (1.29%), as well as clothing and footwear (1.07%).
Prices by cities
INEI reported that all 26 cities where the consumer price index is tracked experienced a rise in prices last year.
The cities with the highest growth were
Ica (4.19%), Huancavelica (4.12%),
Puno (3.95%), Cerro de Pasco (3.77%), Huancayo (3.59%), and Tacna (3.53%).
In contrast, Pucallpa (2.28%),
Lima (2.19%), Piura (2.15%), and Chiclayo (1.91%) showed the lowest rates.
