Peruvian Congress President Freddy Otarola on Thursday met with a delegation from the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, which has been on a visit to the South American country since last Monday.
The visiting delegation, led by Delegate Minister in Charge of Latin America Hash Ahmed, informed Otarola about the human rights situation in the occupied Saharawi territories and the deadlock in the United Nations-led talks.
Speaking to the official TV channel of Peru's Congress, the Sahrawi minister said that the purpose of these meetings is to strengthen the bilateral relations with Peru and to draw attention to the human rights violations in occupied Western Sahara.
Also present at the meeting were Sahrawi Ambassador Ali Salem Sid Ezzain, Congress Vice-President Carmen Omonte, as well as several leaders and parliamentarians from various political groups.
Following this meeting, the Sahrawi delegation held talks with the president of the Bar Association of Lima, Raul Chaname, and several members of his board, where they voiced support to the struggle of the Saharawi people, according to the Sahara Press Service.
Earlier this week, the Sahrawi delegation met with senior officials from Peru's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Deputy Foreign Minister Fernando Rojas.
