The
Peruvian Navy's BAP Union sailing training ship on Sunday, January 21, arrived at the Port of Malaga, in Spain, where the crew was welcomed warmly by Spanish authorities and by the Peruvian community living in said Iberian nation.
In statements with Andina news agency, spokespersons from the Peruvian Navy stated that the training vessel arrived in Malaga at 8 a.m. (local time).
The images provided by Peruvian nationals living in Malaga show the warm welcome that the BAP Union crew received.
Moreover, they were welcomed with the Peruvian national anthem as the sun's first rays hit with the sunrise.
To the sound of the emblematic song "Contigo Peru" (With you, Peru), a large group of Peruvians danced in typical costumes from the Peruvian highlands and coast, expressing their pride in receiving the BAP Union in Spain —Peru's first travelling embassy.
Gutierrez explained that the BAP Union circumnavigation emulates the feat of the Peruvian frigate Amazonas, which sailed around the world in 1856.
Therefore, this epic voyage not only honors the maritime traditions of Peru, but also celebrates international cooperation and friendship with the seas and nations, confirming Peru's identity as an oceanic country.
BAP Union's next stop will be at the Port of Cadiz on January 31, 2024, where it will remain until February 4
