Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Juan Carlos Mathews underscored how important it will be for Peru to assume, for the third time, the Presidency of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in 2024, at a ceremony that will bring together the leaders of 21 member economies in Peru.

In this sense, the government official stressed it is an opportunity for Peru to consolidate its international outreach in the most innovative, dynamic, and fastest-growing region around the world.

Peru currently has bilateral and/or plurilateral agreements in force with 14 APEC economies: Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, China, South Korea, the United States, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

To date, Peru has signed 22 free trade agreements, which allows its exports to land in 58 economies around the world.

In 2022, APEC accounted for 66.9% of Peru's trade with the rest of the world.
