Although the pandemic affected consumption capacity around the world, Peruvian agro-exports to the United States increased 4.7% between January and August to US$1.274 billion, which provides an opportunity for food producers, the Association of Peruvian Exporters (Adex) reported.
The main export products to that destination were fresh grapes (whose sales amounted to US$218.8 million/up 31.9%) avocados (US$165 million/down 28.9%), fresh or chilled asparagus (up 6.7%), citrus fruits (up 72.2%) and cranberries (down 16.6%).
Other exported products were mangoes, artichokes, non-frozen prepared or canned vegetables, quinoa, non-crushed and non-ground ginger, onions, bananas, cacao beans, tangerines, paprika, cacao butter, among others.
According to Adex Global Business and Economy Research Center (Cien-Adex), food industry exports recorded an annual average growth rate of 13.4% between 2010 and 2019.
Therefore, in a bid to increase the presence of Peruvian products in the U.S. market and other top destinations, Adex organizes the 2020 Virtual Expoalimentaria fair, which will be held until November 15 through the B2Peru platform, in which national and international exhibitors promote their export supply to over 500 buyers from the five continents.
Among the U.S. buyers is KH International, which is interested in IQF (Individually Quick Frozen) fruits and vegetables, juices, purees, pulps, and Andean grains.
For its part, the H-E-B supermarket chain demands baking mixes, pie crusts and fillings, spices, flour, sugar, oil, canned tuna, canned meat, soups, and sauces.
