Peru's 2026 General Elections: Party registration deadline set for April 12

Saturday, April 12, is the deadline for political parties wishing to participate in the 2026 General Elections to complete their registration process with the Political Organizations Registry (ROP) of the National Elections Board (JNE), according to the electoral schedule.

That day is also the deadline for issuing electoral reforms applicable to said elections, which includes their approval by Congress, promulgation, and publication in the Official Gazette El Peruano.

The upcoming General Elections will take place on April 12, 2026, in accordance with the announcement made by President Dina Boluarte.

It is worth noting that, as of now, 41 political organizations are registered and therefore eligible to participate in said elections.

Additionally, according to the ROP website, six political organizations are currently in the summary stage of registration, which is the final step in the registration process.

These groups are: Partido Politico Integridad Democratica (Political Party for Democratic Integrity), Resurgimiento Unido Nacional – RUNA (National United Resurgence – RUNA), Un Camino Diferente (A Different Path), UP Unidad Popular (UP Popular Unity), Adelante Pueblo Unido (Forward United People), and Partido por el Entendimiento, Recuperacion y la Unificacion del Peru (Party for the Understanding, Recovery, and Unification of Peru).

The general elections are scheduled for April 12, 2026. On that day, the President of the Republic, Vice Presidents, Senators, and Deputies of Congress, as well as Peruvian representatives to the Andean Parliament, will be elected.

If none of the candidates for the Presidency and Vice Presidencies of the Republic obtains more than half of the valid votes, a second election (runoff) will be held between the two candidates with the highest number of votes on June 7, 2026.
