The Peru-Japan Countervalue General Fund (FGCPJ) has donated food items valued at S/1.048 million (about US$284,413) to the National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci) in order to be distributed to people affected by heavy rains in northern Peru.

Army Brigade General Carlos Manuel Yañez, the head of Indeci, led the handover ceremony of the donation, which consisted of 4,000 food kits, 4,000 hygiene kits, 4,000 7-liter water gallons, and 160 tents.

On behalf of the institution, Yañez thanked the Peru-Japan Countervalue General Fund for its constant support and cooperation.

Likewise, he highlighted the fact that the FGCPJ has always shown an unwavering commitment to provide humanitarian aid for the Peruvian people in times of emergency.

Moreover, the head of Indeci underscored that this support will help those hit by heavy rains.

Also, Yañez reiterated the commitment of the institution as a whole to the contribution made by allies to achieve goals for the benefit of Peruvians.

The event took place at the Indeci national warehouse located in Callao region.

Attending were Japanese Ambassador to Peru Kazuyuki Katayama, FGCPJ Executive-Secretary Margarita Imano Konno, as well as the executive director of the Peruvian International Cooperation Agency (APCI) and chairperson of the FGCPJ Steering Committee, Jose Antonio Gonzalez Norris.

In addition, the Army Brigade General remarked that this year marks 150 years of friendship between Peru and Japan —a relationship based on solidarity and mutual support— noting that the recent donation is a tangible sign of the strong ties and collaboration between both countries.
