The United Nations Interagency Task Force (UNIATF) on the Prevention and Control of Non-communicable Diseases (NCDs) has rewarded Peru's Health Ministry (Minsa) for its contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals.
The award was handed out during a meeting at the United Nations headquarters.
This way, the United Nations recognized Minsa's invaluable and outstanding contribution to the improvement of nutrition and food in Peru, mainly in vulnerable groups such as children and teenagers, in line with the Government's General Policy Towards 2021, related to social development and well-being of the population.
Minister Zulema Tomas received the award in the category Outstanding Ministries of Health, along with other delegates from seven countries, the other awardees.
"This award recognizes the committed and joint efforts to reduce, prevent, and control
non-communicable diseases. This is one of the goals jointly set by the several countries taking part in this event towards 2030," she stated.
The Minsa head attended meetings prior to the
Climate Action Summit 2019. At the gathering, Peru and Spain led the coalition for social and political drivers. In addition, Peru was present in high-level meetings on universal health coverage, among others.
