Peru once again shines on the international tourism stage, winning six awards at the 2026 World Travel Awards for South America and reinforcing its position as one of the region's leading destinations.

These awards, regarded as among the most prestigious in the global travel and tourism industry, recognize the excellence and appeal of Peru's tourist offerings.

These honors were joined by the award presented to the Machu Picchu Historic Sanctuary in Cusco, which was named "South America's Leading Tourist Attraction."

Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Rogers Valencia said the awards reaffirm the commitment of the Peruvian Government and the country to developing a competitive, sustainable, and inclusive tourism sector.

"This recognition fills us with pride and reaffirms our commitment to continuing to promote competitive, sustainable, and inclusive tourism that values our diversity, protects our heritage, and creates opportunities for our citizens," Valencia stated.

"We thank the organizers, those who supported us, and everyone involved in this value chain," he added.

Awards highlight Peru's riches

The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur) noted that the recognition as "South America's Leading Destination" highlights the diversity of Peru's tourism offerings and its ability to provide unique experiences for international travelers.

Meanwhile, the awards for "South America's Leading Culinary Destination," "South America's Leading Cultural Destination," and "South America's Leading Nature Destination" recognize Peru's cuisine, historical heritage, traditions, and the country's extraordinary biodiversity, which offers diverse landscapes and experiences in every region.

Likewise, the award for "South America's Leading Contributor to Sustainable Tourism 2026" recognizes the importance of promoting responsible tourism that protects natural and cultural heritage while creating opportunities for local communities.

Meanwhile, the Machu Picchu Historic Sanctuary was named "South America's Leading Tourist Attraction."

This recognition highlights the significance of one of Peru's foremost landmarks, whose remarkable Inca architecture and integration with the natural surroundings continue to captivate visitors from around the world.

PromPeru promotes Peru's tourism offerings

The Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Exports and Tourism (PromPeru), an agency attached to Mincetur, carries out promotional activities in international markets to showcase the diversity of destinations and tourism experiences the country has to offer.

The six awards help strengthen Peru's image as a competitive and diverse destination in South America while providing an opportunity to attract more visitors interested in discovering its cultural, culinary, and natural wealth.
