The
Presidency of the Republic has issued a reminder, via social media, of the official name of 2024, which shall appear in all official documents over the next 12 months.
Through
Supreme Decree No. 129-2023-PCM, the Executive Branch approved declaring 2024 the
"Bicentennial year of consolidation of our independence and commemoration of the heroic battles of Junin and Ayacucho."
This measure is applied in accordance with the provisions set forth in section 8 of Article 118 of the Political Constitution of Peru and Law No. 29158, Organic Law on the Executive Branch.
The post was issued on January 1 and features the image of the monument located in the historic Sanctuary of Chacamarca, in Junin region, where the first of these historic battles took place, on August 6, 1824.
Likewise, two centuries have passed since the patriot victory at the Battle of Ayacucho, which occurred on December 9, 1824, in the region of the same name, in an area called Pampa de la Quinua, currently the historic sanctuary of Pampa de Ayacucho.
"This year we will commemorate the Bicentennial of consolidation of our independence, thanks to the glorious deeds of Junin and Ayacucho. We are free, let's always be free!" the government agency said on the social network X (formerly known as Twitter).
Peru celebrated the bicentennial of its independence in 2021. These commemorative events will come to an end on December 31, 2024, in accordance with the Independence Bicentennial Commemoration Agenda, whose last update was published through
Supreme Decree No. 011-2021-MC.
