The
Ubinas Volcano —located in Peru's southern Sanchez Cerro province, Moquegua region— has registered continuous emissions of ash and gases that today reached a height of 1,200 meters above the massif, according to the latest report issued by the
Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP), which monitors the volcanic cone in real time.
This encouraged the entity to issue an ash dispersion alert, as the report indicated that the ash cloud would feature a dispersion radius greater than 40 kilometers.
The sectors affected by the ash and gases emitted by the Ubinas Volcano are the northern and northeastern flanks, towards the districts of Ubinas, Yunga, and Ichuña in Moquegua region, as well as San Juan de Tarucani in Arequipa region.
On this occasion, the ash and gases spread towards the districts of Cabanillas and Santa Lucia in Puno region, as well as populated centers located in said direction.
The ash and gases are dispersed by the wind towards the above-mentioned sectors.
Experts recommend assessing the ash fall across the districts located in the volcano's area of influence.
Moreover, they advised that people should avoid the volcano area within a radius of 4 kilometers, as well as wear facemasks and protective glasses.
