The Lions Club of Trujillo launched the 59 edition of the International Spring Festival, in La Libertad department, with the presentation of beauty queens Ximena Torres and Maria Luisa Ferrer, who said they were very happy to be part of this traditional festival.

The president of the organization, Humberto Caro, said that for 2009 edition they have organized several civic, cultural, folk, artistic, sports and social activities that will end with the Lions Club Parade and Spring Parade Float, which is witnessed by more than 200,000 people every year.

The goal of this event is to collect funds to build a special school for poor people living in Trujillo, where they have invested over US$ 10,000, amount collected in 2008 edition of the festival.

“We want to finish these works this year and collect the necessary money to build the school,” he said.

Regarding the international beauty queens, he emphasized they have invited 22 countries, such as France and Holland, in addition to 10 American beauty queens who have already confirmed their visit.

Trujillo’s spring festival was created in 1950 through an initiative of the Lions Club. They choose a beauty queen and organized a parade with floats along main streets followed by a merry juvenile party. This is how this festival became the major tourist attraction of northern Peru and one the most important of America.
