Peru: Transportation Ministry laments death of seven people due to aircraft crash

The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MTC) has confirmed that seven people died on Friday as a result of the crash of a small aircraft near the Nazca aerodrome, located in the province of the same name in Ica region.

In a statement, the MTC lamented the loss of human lives in the tragic accident.

The government agency added that Minister Juan Francisco Silva expressed his solidarity with the victims' relatives and the ministry's commitment to conduct the pertinent investigations.

The document specified that the accident occurred around 12:10 p.m. (local time) once an Aero Santos aircraft —registration number OB2109, model: Cessna 207, in which 2 crew members and 5 passengers were travelling— crashed into the ground near Maria Reiche Airport in the city of Nazca, moments after taking off.

"So far, it was reported that there has been no survivors (…)," the release read.

The MTC also reported that the event has already been communicated to the State-run Aviation Accident Investigation Commission.

Lastly, it said the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC) is providing full support in the investigation that has already begun to find out the causes of this fatal event.

Update at 9:16 p.m. (local time): The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism explained that, in coordination with the Tourist Protection Network, it informed the Embassies of the Netherlands and Chile about the deaths of Dutch citizens Robbin Van De Streek, Bram Van T Hul, and Floris Hommersom, as well as of Chileans Jorge Mandiola and Camila Quiñones.
