Peru: Transport Minister reaffirms commitment to dialogue

14:39 | Chumbivilcas (Cusco region), Mar. 28.

Peruvian Transport and Communications Minister Edmer Trujillo on Thursday reaffirmed the Government's firm commitment to resuming dialogue and reaching agreements —which benefit communities, the involved regions, and the country— with regard to Las Bambas mining project.

In this sense, the above-mentioned ministers are part of the high-level commission sent by the Executive Branch with the purpose of doubling the support for dialogue to solve the conflict affecting Las Bambas mining project.

Likewise, he ratified the Government's willingness to continue paying for the lands that comprise the Inca country's road infrastructure, referring to the road that passes through the Yavi Yavi estate.

As is known, members of the Fuerabamba community have blocked a roadway corridor in Cusco region that is used by Las Bambas to transport its copper production to Matarani Port.

It should be noted only the mining company's vehicles are forbidden to transit. Fuerabamba community demands Las Bambas to pay compensation for the use of the lands.
