Peru: Tourism recovers in Arequipa, its airport received over 109,000 passengers in Oct

09:59 | Arequipa (Arequipa region), Nov. 5.

Arequipa emerges as an important tourist destination in Peru with 109,980 passengers arriving at Alfredo Rodriguez Ballon International Airport in the "White City" only in October, exceeding the figures recorded in September and August this year, according to Andean Airports of Peru (AAP)—concessionaire of said air terminal.

This figure represents an important increase compared to September, when the Arequipa-based airport received 98,390 passengers, while 105,593 passengers arrived in August.

Airports in cities of Arequipa, Ayacucho, Juliaca, Puerto Maldonado, and Tacna as a whole served 224,253 passengers on 1,877 flights in October 2021.

"AAP has optimized the performance of operations at all its airports, serving simultaneous flights in Arequipa, for example, which has allowed the recovery of passenger and flight flow, despite the capacity restrictions that remain in place for the sector," AAP Operations Manager Carlos Antonioli stated.

"At this moment, our indicators are at 70% of pre-pandemic levels," he added.

Regarding the arrival of travelers, Arequipa's airport is followed by that of Juliaca with 41,945 passengers, of Tacna with 29,381, of Puerto Maldonado with 22,122, and of Ayacucho with 20,285.

AAP explained that 1,877 flights were served at its airports in October, 1,708 in September, and 1,728 in August.

Regarding the freight transport, 318,563 kg were transported in October, 305,641 kg in September, and 262,783 kg in August.
