Peru to restart flights to 5 European cities on December 15

17:12 | Lima, Dec. 4.

Transport and Communications Minister Eduardo Gonzales on Friday announced that international flights to Amsterdam (Netherlands), Madrid, Barcelona (Spain), Paris (France), and London (United Kingdom) will resume starting December 15, 2020.

"International flights lasting more than eight hours will resume starting December 15. The decision has been made by the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) in consultation with the Ministry of Health (Minsa)," he stated.

According to Gonzalez, these five European cities are added to a list of 36 from around the world, whose international flights to Peru have already restarted.

"Between 24 and 30 flights will be operating from different cities in Europe starting December 15, which will allow us to continue the process of resuming international air travel, which has been underway since last September," he said.

As stated by the minister, the gradual resumption of international flights —after Peru closed its borders in mid-March to prevent the spread of COVID-19— has allowed 101,638 citizens —Peruvians and foreigners— to leave or arrive in the country in order to work, continue health treatments, or reunite with their families.

These flights operated between October 5 —when international air travel resumed— and November 30.
