Economy and Finance Minister Maria Antonieta Alva on Saturday affirmed that Peru has been authorized by the OECD Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes to automatically exchange financial and Country-by-Country Report information with partner jurisdictions, after it successfully complied with the confidentiality and data protection requirements set by this body.

"This means Peru is able to receive tax information automatically from more than 160 jurisdictions worldwide, which will allow us to have a new and important instrument to fight tax evasion and avoidance," she posted on Twitter.

The minister reported that Peru joined the Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes in 2014, and various tax regulatory changes have been implemented since then.

"Some of these measures include changes in the tax code, bank secrecy, among others; as well as operational measures like the creation of the area of information exchange, security measures, and data protection in the National Superintendence of Customs and Tax Administration (Sunat), among others," she said.

The government official explained that Peru is in the final phase of preparations to sign and deposit the Multilateral Agreement that will allow it to automatically exchange financial information in 2021.

"This milestone allows us to move towards greater tax transparency and is a key instrument that will help increase the tax collection which —together with the fight against corruption, tax avoidance and tax evasion— constitute a goal of this government," she added.
