The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Saturday announced that Peru will maintain diplomatic relations with all countries of Latin America and the rest of the world without any discrimination.

During his participation in the VI Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), the Head of State said that —otherwise— the mandate from deep Peru would fall on deaf ears.

The top official reminded regional peers that his administration —elected by the people's will— has proposed initiating a new stage in Peruvian republican life, two centuries after the proclamation of Independence in 1821.

"For this reason, within the framework of the rule of law and institutionalism, we deem as necessary implementing the reforms that the country demands to reaffirm the achievements and amend the defects in the political, social, and economic structure, which have made it possible for poverty to persist, along with exclusion and lack of opportunities,” he pointed out.

The President also expressed recognition for Mexico as the hosting country of the VI CELAC Summit, and for seeking the positioning of the region based on consensus and common interests.

Moreover, Mr. Castillo said Peru is present at this meeting at an expectant moment in its history, as it recently commemorated the Bicentennial of its Independence.

In this regards, the President reaffirmed the need to preserve and strengthen brotherhood ties with countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.

The VI Summit of CELAC —which takes place at the National Palace of Mexico— brings together representatives from more than 30 countries.
