Peru will exercise the presidency of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in 2024. Therefore, it will host the summit of 21 member economies next year.

Let us review the occasions on which our country hosted high-level meetings of heads of state or government.

It will be the third time that Peru welcomes heads of state or representatives of APEC member economies. It had already hosted them in 2008 and 2016.

Last year, the capital city, Lima, was the venue for the 52nd General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) held on October 5-7, 2022.

The General Assembly is in charge of defining the mandates, actions, policies, and mechanisms implemented by the OAS throughout the year. Peru had previously hosted the main annual meeting in 1997 and 2010.

The VIII Summit of the Americas was held in Lima on April 13-14, 2018, to discuss political and economic aspects under the slogan "Democratic Governance against Corruption."

The Summit of the Americas is the meeting of heads of state and government of the continent. It takes place within the framework of the Organization of American States (OAS).

Four years earlier, Peru hosted ministers and heads of delegation who attended the 20th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP20). The event took place in Lima from December 1 to 12, 2014.

The III Summit of South American-Arab Countries (ASPA) was held in the Peruvian capital as well, which brought together the heads of state and government of South American and Arab countries. It took place in the city of Lima on October 1-2, 2012.

Peru had also hosted the V Summit of Heads of State and Presidents of Latin America, the Caribbean, and the European Union (LAC-EU). It was held in Lima from May 13 to 17, 2008.
