The first Andean Store will open in Washington, D.C. by the end of October this year, as part of Peru’s Sierra Exportadora Program efforts to boost Andean products at diplomatic offices around the globe.
“Sierra Exportadora -a government-backed development organization to help Peruvian producers access international markets- is looking to take advantage of the facilities available at 120 Peruvian diplomatic offices,” said Alfonso Velásquez, CEO of the program.
The aim is to promote and enhance the competitive position of value added Andean products, such as quinoa and kiwicha.
The state-run program, under the Tiendecita Andina (Andean Store) scheme, is intended to bring Peruvian products to Uruguay, Honduras, Kuwait and Canada.
“This means the highlands of Peru and their businessmen will be present at diplomatic missions around the world,” Velasquez told Andina News Agency.
In this regard, he recalled the recently-signed renewal of an inter-agency agreement drawn up between Sierra Exportadora and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aimed at promoting Peruvian exports overseas.
