Peru: Tickets to Machu Picchu sold out thru Jan 5

Tickets to visit the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu from January 1 to 5, 2024 —made available by the Ministry of Culture, through the Decentralized Culture Directorate (DDC) in Cusco— were sold out in less than an hour.

Tickets were sold through the website www.machupicchu.gob.pe and the DDC-Cusco's extranet. The sale started at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday.


The in-person sale of 1,000 tickets per day to visit the llaqta the day after the purchase continues to take place at the Machu Picchu Town's Cultural Center.

The sale of entrance tickets, starting January 6, will take place in the coming days, through the virtual platform of the Ministry of Culture (tuboleto.cultura.pe).

During these last Christmas holidays, there was a large influx of visitors to Machu Picchu. Thus, on December 23, 24, and 25, more than 7,000 people entered the ancient ruins.

The entrance to the historic sanctuary of Machu Picchu takes place without any trouble, following all security procedures and the corresponding capacity, to offer a pleasant experience to domestic and foreign visitors, in one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, which is a cultural and natural UNESCO World Heritage Site.


Starting January 1, 2024, visitors will be given a half hour tolerance period to enter Machu Picchu, in accordance with the purchased ticket, according to the Culture sector.

Located in the heart of the Peruvian Andes, the sacred Inca citadel —built around 1450 and discovered in 1911— still hides enigmas and mysteries about its real purpose that continue to be hidden nowadays and that arouse the interest of both visitors and archaeologists from all over the world, the Marca Peru (Peru Brand) noted.
