The Governments of Peru and Switzerland have strengthened their commitment to continue diversifying the bilateral relationship, particularly in the fields of trade, investment, and cooperation in various areas, during the Fourth Meeting on Economic Affairs between the two countries.

Both parties recognized the favorable development of economic relations, which have been boosted by the Free Trade Agreement between Peru and the States of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), which consists of Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein, during the eleven years in which the agreement has been in force.

This trade agreement has particularly benefited exports of coffee, silver, yarn, among other products.

Similarly, the parties have recognized the important role of Switzerland's bilateral cooperation with Peru through the Swiss Secretariat for Economic Affairs - SECO, which has continued even after Peru was classified as an upper-middle income country.

Peru and Switzerland have also agreed to continue to strengthen these relations in order to promote economic recovery, step up the joint fight against COVID-19, and consolidate new areas of cooperation in favor of sustainable development of the cacao and chocolate value chain in Peru, among others.

Moreover, the parties discussed the opportunities to promote greater Swiss investment in the South American nation.

The Swiss delegation welcomed the invitation received by Peru to start the process of accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Additionally, the delegation offered assistance with the strengthening of Peru's public institutions, in order to achieve the standards required by said organization.
