Peru: State Ministers travel to various regions facing protests

An Executive Branch delegation is heading this morning to various Peruvian regions where protests have been held in recent days.

The group is made up of Ministers Alberto Otarola (Defense), Cesar Cervantes (Interior), and Deputy Territorial Governance Minister Jose Muro, whose designation was officialized earlier today.

They are joined by Chief of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces, Army General Manuel Gomez de la Torre.

"The Executive (Branch) Committee will dialogue with regional authorities and verify compliance with the work of the National Police and the Armed Forces within the framework of the state of emergency. The priority is to restore internal order," the Ministry of Defense reported on Twitter.

Last Monday, Prime Minister Pedro Angulo told Congress that it was decided to instruct each State Minister to go to every zone hit by social conflict, to promote dialogue with elected authorities, social organizations, and civil society with the aim of promoting territorial development, social peace, and governability.
