Peru and Singapore agreed Thursday to deepen their bilateral agenda and relationships, during the official visit of Singapore's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Justice, K. Shanmugam to Peru.
Peru's Foreign Minister Eda Rivas and her Singapore's counterpart discussed issues of mutual interest such as strengthening cooperation in the areas of education, science, technology, tourism, trade and investment promotion.
The authorities also addressed regional issues like the joint participation in the Economic Cooperation Forum Asia - Pacific (APEC), negotiations of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) , and the Pacific Alliance, an economic bloc comprising Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru.
This is the first time that a Singapore's foreign minister visits Peru since 33 years of diplomatic relations.
In 2012, trade between the two countries reached US$ 78.8 billion, an increase of 41% compared to 2011. Between January and March 2013, trade totaled about US$ 19 million. Exports to Singapore in 2012 increased by 168% compared to the previous year, surpassing US$ 21 million.
