This was defined in a runoff, held during a Parliament plenary session on Friday evening, in which the legislator faced Somos Peru (We Are Peru party) Congressman Alfredo Azurin.
67 votes contributed to electing Monteza to the Board, whereas 27 went to Azurin. Other 6 legislators decided to vote blank and another 11 cast null votes.
The number of parliamentarians present at the session and who participated in said election was 111.
During the first round, the two aforementioned candidates had received the highest number of votes. Yet neither of them had reached the simple majority established by Congress. Therefore, a second round was held.
New composition of Congress Board
Monteza replaces Podemos Peru (We can Peru party) Congresswoman Digna Calle at Parliament's Second Deputy Presidency.
Calle had resigned from the Board on February 3.
The Board of Congress is now composed of legislators Jose Williams Zapata (Chairman), Martha Moyano (First Deputy Chairwoman), Silvia Monteza (Second Deputy Chairwoman), and Alejandro Muñante (Third Deputy Chairman).
On the occasion, Monteza was also sworn in to the post.
