Foreign Minister Elmer Schialer emphasized that the strategic partnership between Peru and China is achieving positive results, and therefore the intention is to continue deepening and expanding this relationship in various sectors.
"Our comprehensive strategic partnership is bearing great and positive fruit, not only through the reciprocal state visits, first by President Dina Boluarte to your beautiful and wonderful country, but also by President Xi Jinping to Peru, both last year," Schialer stated during a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
The Peruvian Foreign Minister highlighted the important friendship between the two countries, which is notorious in a series of economic, political, cultural, and technological documents signed.
“Peru's intention, esteemed Foreign Minister, esteemed colleague, is to continue deepening and expanding this relationship. Peru's largest trading partner is China, and for us, this is a very important figure,” the Peruvian Foreign Minister stated during his speech.
For his part, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi welcomed the Peruvian Foreign Minister and stated that the two countries share a strong bond of friendship.
“Please convey the good teachings of President Xi Jinping to President (Dina) Boluarte. China and Peru have a traditional friendship,” said Wang Yi.
The Chinese Foreign Minister emphasized that they are very grateful to the Peruvian people for the warm and cordial welcome and the friendly reception given to Chinese President Xi Jinping, who was in Peru last year to participate in APEC 2024.
He emphasized that during that visit, the Chinese President and President Dina Boluarte jointly announced the inauguration of the Chancay port, which caused a sensation around the world.
“The positive significance of the port's opening has gone beyond our bilateral relationship and has become an important symbol of national unity and cooperation to accelerate our development. It has also opened a new stage of friendly cooperation in our bilateral relations,” he emphasized.
He added that currently, direct shipments are now operating from Chancay to Shanghai in both directions, and a container route network has begun to form, covering many countries in Asia and Latin America.
“We have greater confidence in the prospects for China-Latin America relations. We are willing to work together with our Peruvian friends to implement the outcomes of the President's visit to Peru, promote the China-Latin America comprehensive strategic partnership, continuously advance to a new level, and better benefit the people of both countries. We welcome his visit again,” he stated.
Specifically, the Peruvian Foreign Minister will participate this Tuesday in the China-CELAC Forum meeting, which commemorates a decade dedicated to strengthening cooperative relations between China and the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean. The first meeting of ministers was held in January 2015.
Now Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will led the forum's plenary session.
