Peru registered 62 quakes in October

Peru was hit by 62 earthquakes in October, the Inca country's Geophysical Institute (IGP) informed Friday.

The population felt 45 quakes. However, the tremors caused no harm to the people's integrity.

Cusco region recorded the highest number of seismic events (19). 

According to IGP, the strongest earthquakes shook Espinar in Cusco region (5.2 magnitude), and Marcona in Ica region (5.1), on October 4 and 12, respectively. 

Another significant event was registered in Ocuviri —Puno region (4.8 magnitude) on October 27.

Finally, Arequipa, Ica, and Lima regions recorded three quakes in each of them.

It should be noted Peru lies in the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area known for seismic upheavals and volcanic eruptions.
