A new name has been added to the Odebrecht scandal blacklist: Callao Regional Governor Felix Moreno, who on Monday was transferred to Ancon I prison also known as "Piedras Gordas" (Fat Rocks).
Moreno now serves an 18-month preventive detention sentence in Lima's northern area, as announced by the Peruvian Judiciary last Saturday.
The Governor was accused by the Prosecutor's Office of allegedly having received a bribe from the Brazilian construction giant to secure a contract.
The official was exposed by Israeli businessman Gil Shavit, who affirmed —as part of a plea bargain deal— that the authority had received a US$2.4-million bribe from the conglomerate.
The statement was later deemed valid by the magistrate.
Thus, the Prosecutor's Office charged Moreno with alleged money laundering and influence peddling offences.
The Public Ministry affirms the Regional Governor would have used his influence to benefit Odebrecht with the Costa Verde–Callao stretch concession.
