Peru receives international cooperation from Canada worth about US$3.5 million

09:49 | Lima, Sep. 6.

The Canadian Government has made donations and provided technical assistance —valued at nearly US$3.5 million— in support of Peruvian Government's efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

Canada's cooperation includes —among other things— the delivery of personal protective equipment (PPE) nationwide; the strengthening of Loreto Region Hospital's laboratory capacities; the provision of molecular tests, supplies, and laboratory reagents to the National Health Institute; and the development of a phone application to remotely treat mental health cases.

Likewise, it is worth highlighting the contribution to the adaptation of the phone monitoring system for pregnant women and newborns, which benefits 84 Amazonian communities in Loreto; as well as for the use of radio, in order to increase access to information and thus strengthen the indigenous communities’ response to the novel coronavirus in Peru.

Finally, it is appropriate to highlight the cooperation provided to the Peruvian Cayetano Heredia University for the evaluation of the efficacy of convalescent plasma among hospitalized COVID-19 patients, with the purpose of developing a treatment.
